The Los Angeles Auto Show’s AutoMobility LA recently announced that for the first time, Visa and General Motors (GM) will co-sponsor the hackathon at AutoMobility LA, taking place November 25-26, 2018 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Focused on reducing congestion, emissions and building in-car payment solutions, both Visa and GM see the hackathon at AutoMobility LA as an opportunity for participants to explore solutions that will improve the overall driving experience.

As the future of transportation evolves, Visa will utilize the hackathon at AutoMobility LA as an opportunity for participants to explore new in-car payment solutions that can improve the overall driving experience. As the world’s leader in digital payments, Visa believes simple and secure in-vehicle payments are a crucial part of the connected car transformation.

“With over 135 million commuters in the U.S. every day, Visa promotes in-car payment solutions that are secure, simple and emphasize driver convenience,” said Olabisi Boyle, Senior Director, Connected (IoT) Platforms. “Today’s advances in digital technology are shaping how in-car commerce will evolve, and through this hackathon, developers can harness data and payment technology to create a more intuitive and personalized generation of in-car payment experiences.”

GM is the leader in vehicle connectivity, with more than nine million cars, trucks and crossovers already on the road in the United States with built-in 4GLTE Wi-Fi. Connectivity will play a significant role in helping the company achieve its vision of a world of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.

“General Motors and Visa share a goal to simplify and improve the world around the driving experience – an area primed for innovation and ripe with potential to benefit drivers, passengers, pedestrians, city planners, merchants and more,” said Charles Thomas, GM’s Chief Data and Analytics Officer. “We believe tremendous value can be unlocked through data optimization and advanced analytics and the hackathon at AutoMobility LA will be a great way to put new talent, expertise, and knowledge to work on challenges that can make a difference for millions of people.”

“We are excited to have GM and Visa as co-sponsors for this year’s hackathon and believe that this unique partnership will bring in innovative and talented developers who want to create solutions for a better driving experience,” said Lisa Kaz, President and CEO of the LA Auto Show and AutoMobility LA. “This is the second year that we’ve fully owned the Hackathon and having these blue-chip brands on board is another example of our ongoing commitment to being at the forefront of the new mobility era.”
