Courthouse Dogs Foundation has been awarded $20,000 as a winner of a 2016 BECU People Helping Employees’ Choice Award, voted on by BECU’s more than 1,500 employees, for their work in providing training for employees in the criminal justice system in the use of professionally trained facility dogs to provide emotional support and make children comfortable in an uncomfortable situation during legal proceedings.

Ellen Oneill-Stephens JD, Founder of Courthouse Dogs Foundation’s explained the impact of this award, “Receiving the $20,000 BECU Employee’s Choice award will not only allow us to reach out to their courthouses and child advocacy centers but also help them implement courthouse facility dog programs to provide this much needed service in their communities.”

“We are so grateful to BECU employees for understanding what a difference these dogs will make during the most difficult time in a child’s life,” said Courthouse Dogs Foundation’s Executive Director, Celeste Walsen.

In its fourth year, the Boeing Employees Credit Union People Helping People Awards were established to acknowledge and celebrate the non-profits in the community that members support through volunteering or providing monetary contributions.  Over 250 nominations were submitted by members and BECU awarded $170,000 to 13 local non-profit organizations.
