A Party + Auction held as a fundraiser for the Washington Wine Industry Foundation raised over $160,000.
The event, held in early February, drew nearly 400 wine industry movers and shakers to support the Foundation’s work and the future of Washington wine. Attendees enjoyed a diamond derby, live music, a custom chef-designed dinner, wine from premier Washington wineries, and silent and live auctions. The Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance is excited to announce a new partnership for the local Barrel Full of Money fundraising campaign. Seguin Moreau, famed French barrel manufacturer, will be joining the efforts to raise money for the Blue Mountain Action Council Food Bank by donating a portion of money from barrels purchased by Walla Walla Valley winemakers.
“Seguin Moreau has been part of this community for many, many years. This is a great way to give back and to show our customers that we are involved,” said Chris Hansen, general manager for Seguin Moreau Napa Cooperage.
Reveal Walla Walla Valley, an annual wine futures auction for the wine trade, raised $88,300 on Monday, April 10, 2017. Nearly one dozen bidders snapped-up the 30 exclusive auction lots in under 45 minutes. The average price per lot increased by 28 percent compared to the inaugural event in 2016.
Washington State’s wine grape harvest hit a new record in 2016, according to the Washington State Wine Commission’s Annual Grape Production Report. The report, compiled with information provided by all Washington State wineries, showed the 2016 harvest totaled 270,000 tons, a 22-percent increase over the previous year. Tonnage in 2015 was down a little compared to the previous record harvest of 227,000 tons in 2014, making the 2016 harvest the biggest ever in Washington State’s history.
