Issaquah-based Combat Flip Flops Makes Deal with Three Sharks on ABC’s Shark Tank

After four years of failing and succeeding, creating new roadmaps for manufacturing in war zones, employing former drug runners, educating women, clearing land mines, and supporting veterans, Combat Flip Flops has succeeded in winning the hearts and minds of three of today’s most prominent investors and Shark Tank’s self-made millionaires.  Mark Cuban, Daymond John and Lori Greiner made a deal of $300,000 for 30% equity in Combat Flip Flops, spread equally between the three investors.

“Having our mission of ‘Business, Not Bullets’ validated by the Sharks is powerful,’ said Matthew ‘Griff’ Griffin.  “It’s not just a good idea, it’s a legitimate course of action now backed by dominant players in the fashion, retail, and tech sectors.”

The $300,000 investment from the Sharks will be used for inventory and to build up Combat Flip Flops’ staff.  The three co-founders have, for the majority of their time in business, been working side jobs.  Investment will allow them to focus 100% on the business and add staff when needed.

“Combat Flip Flops will be able to book solid, consistent orders with our manufacturers.  This will enable those manufacturers to hire more staff and have a larger impact in their communities.  For the charities, we will be able to provide steady, substantial support.  More Afghan girls in school, swaths of land cleared of mines, and supporting positive transitions for SOF veterans,” said Griff.

When asked what, besides the deal, was the most exciting part of being on Shark Tank, Donald Lee joked, “We’ve heard Kevin talk about his money being soldiers, going to war, and other military analogies.  When he dropped out, handing him the red chem light was the only logical thing to do.”

In 2015, Combat Flip Flops’ sales increased 150% over 2014 while the company donated over 60 years of school to Afghan girls and cleared 1533 square meters of land mines in Laos, keeping kids and villagers safe. Through its Unarmed Forces, the brand has spread stoke and empowered mindful consumers to make a difference.

Issaquah FASTSIGNS to host a week-long Open House

On Sept. 14 through Sept. 18, locally owned and operated sign and visual graphics provider FASTSIGNS of Issaquah will host an Open House week to celebrate its newly remodeled facility and introduce the center’s team to the community. The center is located at 60 NW Gilman Blvd., Suite C, Issaquah, WA  98027 and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday

Co-owners and longtime Issaquah and Sammamish residents Rochelle and Scott Juetten have owned and operated a FASTSIGNS center in Bellevue for 25 years and wanted to expand their business with a second location in their hometown. In June, they acquired Issaquah Signs and have since remolded the facility, upgraded the center’s technology and opened FASTSIGNS of Issaquah.
“We have always wanted to open a second location in Issaquah and we are now realizing our goal that we set to accomplish,” Rochelle said. “With our combined knowledge, experience and equipment, we’re excited about the wide range of capabilities FASTSIGNS brings to the community that we love.”
FASTSIGNS of Issaquah and Bellevue produce 95 percent of their products locally and have a robust installation team. Combined, the centers have a flatbed wide-format printer, which produces large volume prints on rigid and flexible surfaces up to two inches thick; an Epson printer with eco-friendly inks, which produces quality banners and decals; an HP 360 Latex printer, which produces a variety of signs and visual graphics including vehicle wraps; a routing machine to cut dimensional letters and unique shapes; and a laser engraving machine to create custom nameplates, promotional items, equipment etchings, wayfinding signs and more. The Juetten’s also replaced all of the center’s computer technology with the most state-of-the-art software in the sign industry, which improves the quality and timeliness of estimates, proofs and sign production.
“We want to show the community the high quality products and services our business provides and that we are truly ‘More Than’ fast and ‘More Than’ signs,” Scott said. “We look forward to hosting our week-long Open House event and learning how we can help local businesses and organizations tell their story using comprehensive signs and visual graphics.”
