Why I Chose the IKON Pass Over the Epic Pass This Season

OK – I did it.  I bought the IKON ski pass – and I’m super excited about it!

The other day I wrote a post about trying to decide whether to buy the EPIC Pass or the IKON Pass, and I decided to go with the IKON Pass.

EPIC or IKON? Which Ski Pass Should I Buy?

Epic Ski Pass 2018-19

With winter closing in across the US and lots of winter storms happening already early in the holiday season, I’m excited to get to ski and snowboard this winter.  Even though I’ve lived in San Diego for most of the last 35 years, I’ve never actually skied or boarded in California.  My on the snow experience has been limited to Washington State (Snoqualmie Summit, Stevens Pass and Mission Ridge), Oregon (Mount Bachelor, Mount Hood and Mount Ashland), Colorado (Beaver Creek and Vail) and British Columbia (Whistler Blackcomb – my all-time favorite ski resort so far).

1 Year Old Baby Ava Kalea to Hit the Ski Slopes This Winter: Updated

Ava Kalea Skiing BabyLooking for Strategic Partnerships for Skiing Baby Project

(Updated 10/11/17)

This post first appeared on a LinkedIn ski professionals group pages and then on Awesome Travel Guides.  Thought it should also be posted here directly on Ava Kalea’s site so that her friends, family and fans will all know what she is up to.

Ava Kalea was a year old on 9/7/17 and we are looking forward to getting her on the snow this coming season.  She received her first pair of skis for her first birthday and has been watching lots of YouTube videos of other babies skiing.

Considering spending a full month (or more) in Salt Lake City to ski at Park City or some of the other local resorts. Figuring 30 days on the snow will do her (and her parents) well.

Could potentially get Epic, Mountain Collective, or MAX passes and do some traveling – possibly having our baby ski in every resort on a pass …

We will be filming the entire process and progress – and posting daily on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. This a really great opportunity for ski and travel partners to get the word out about how great they are for family skiing and snowboarding.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on how to hook up some partnerships and/or the best way(s) to get Ava Kalea up to speed?

Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area Opens for the Winter Season

Tahoe Donner Cross CountryWith new snow, Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area opened for the winter season this past Saturday, Nov. 26. Coincidentally, the resort opened last year for the season on Nov. 26, 2015 as well, which happened to be Thanksgiving Day.

“We are excited to be open in November again this year on Thanksgiving weekend,” said Sally Jones, Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area manager. “Folks can get in early morning skiing starting at 8:30 a.m. on freshly groomed trails every day and with limited crowds, this is the best time to come.”

Jones noted Dec. 3–16 is an especially good time for newcomers to join a passholder on the trails as the resort is celebrating, “Bring a Friend Days,” which allows season passholders to bring as many friends as they like and they’ll receive discounted trail passes and rentals.  Passholder must be present in order for friend skiers to receive discounts.
