“Bringing the taste from my home in Japan to many,” was the vision of Rikki Rikki founder, Masahiro Terada when he opened his award winning Japanese restaurant in Kirkland in 1990. After 26 years and serving thousands of Eastside residents, Saturday February 20th his restaurant will close.
“Due to the redevelopment of the Park Place Center we will be closing,” said General Manager Keigo Sorajo. “Our hope is to find a new location and reopen soon.”
Rikki Rikki has a loyal following of customers. Six years strong, 2010-2015, the Kirkland Reporter readers voted Rikki Rikki “Best Asian Cuisine in Kirkland,” and in 2009 the restaurant was voted “Best Sushi on the Eastside” by 425 Magazine.
“We are receiving letters, notes, Facebook messages and emails from guests saying good bye and letting us know how much they will miss us,” Keigo said. “It makes us feel good that so many of our guests consider us friends and family. We will miss them as well but hope it’s not very long before we see them again.”

Rikki Rikki Restaurant in Kirkland, Washington offers a wide variety of authentic Japanese dishes including high quality sushi and sashimi, in many cases utilizing signature dressings, sauces and marinades, not available in any other restaurant.
After several requests from customers wanting to buy and take home the restaurants wildly popular sauces, owner Masahiro decided to bottle and sell them. The demand became so great that in 1995 a separate production plant had to be opened and Rikki USA was born. This state of the art, production and bottling facility in Redmond, Washington, now produces over 50 different flavors of Rikki’s & Masa’s sauces, dressings and marinades. The plant employs several highly trained sauce makers and employees with over one million gallons of sauces made annually. These sauces are produced and shipped to customers around the world and are sold through retail outlets and local, high end grocery stores including Whole Foods, Safeway, QFC, PCC, Krogers, Sam’s Club, Costco and Uwajimaya. These sauces are sold under the Rikki brand and Masa’s brand.
Masahiro’s dream to create and share his recipes has reached heights he never could have imagined. “We are sold in different countries and over a few hundred stores & outlets throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Asia,” said Co-founder and Vice President Yasuyuki Terada.
Rikki Rikki’s atmosphere is a Japanese style setting with several private booths (tatami rooms) for larger parties, a full bar including a wide variety of sakes, Japanese beers, specialty cocktails and beverages.
Rikki Rikki Restaurant and Sushi Bar is a family owned and operated business popular for not only it’s award winning food but offering exceptional service and daily specials including “Happy Hour Monday,” “Kids Eat Free on Tuesdays,” and “Salmon Night,” featuring $1 Nigiri Sushi & $3.95 Japanese tap beers.
The restaurant will close its doors for the final time at 10:00pm on Saturday February 20th.
