Although I have a lot of great experience in many different types of roles, I have not yet taken the time to bring that to life in the form of a resume. I’ve found it can be difficult to express real experience and passion on paper and that’s from a guy who used to publish newspapers – and has reviewed hundreds of resumes while overseeing hiring of many people over the years. Most resumes look all alike (my current one is made from one of a handfull of templates available in Microsoft Word), but they all should find a way to tell a story – your story, my story – our resumes are our stories. In my search for employment in a social media or community evangelist role, I’m pretty sure I should be using social media and my social network to help me tell my story. Still the same, the resume is a vital part of almost every job search. Many employers and most recruiters nowadays ask people to go to their sites and upload a resume. (BTW – why isn’t Social Media listed as an industry on m(any?) of these sites yet?) As far as I can tell, these resume importing systems are only looking for certain text, so there’s really no way to stand out here .. But online there is a lot more that can be done. I’m thinking that I’ll do up a slide-share version of my resume in the next couple of days. What would you suggest that I do to make my resume (as well as my online and social media presence) more effective in my search for employment???
UPDATE: As anticipated, the overall search is going slower than desired, but the good news is that I’ve found out about a handful of great opportunities, including two of which I personally know the person doing the hiring. They are both familiar with much of what I’ve done recently in the real of social media and events, which I’m hoping is an advantage …
Most jobseekers depend upon expert resume writers – which is a sensible thing to do. Such professionally prepared resumes stand a better chance of catching a recruiter’s attention.
But it is no more enough to “ catch attention “.
A resume must succeed in “ amazing “ any recruiter – by being “ Interactive “.
In a resume, a recruiter should be able to find additional information about a candidate by
> viewing “ analytical “ graphs – rather than reading
> clicking on “ knowledge / skill “ –related keywords
> clicking on Candidate-Name / Birth date / City location
You will find this at http://www.CustomizeResume.com
I will appreciate suggestions for further improvements.
