I’ve decided to change the name of this blog/project from “Social Media and the Job Search” to “Using Social Media to Discover The Next Opportunity”. Not a huge change, but as someone I know says “words are culture” and this more properly describes the goal of the site.
Each day I get closer to finding the next great opportunity to help an organization succeed in the social media landscape. This project has actually been much more enjoyable than a traditional job search. I’ve submitted very few resumes for only a few select positions, but have enjoyed referrals and recommendations from many great people. It’s also been great to be able to better define what I really want to do – and that is to be a key part of building an online community.
I’d like to thank tech and social media rock star Chris Pirillo for an introduction to Renee Blodgett and PearlTrees. PearlTrees is a fun way to save web content that you are passionate about and a great way to discover content and web recommendations (pearls) from other community members. It’s real easy to do while searching the web with their easy to use (and install) browser toolbar. I look forward to using it more and think that you might want to join in the fun at PearlTrees.com I’d love to hear what YOU think about it.
Sometime next week I’ll be announcing a part-time gig I have agreed to be the “social media department” for a great local non-profit. It’s a great organization, with some very fun and effective people that know how to get things done. I’ve also taken on a new project building a Web 2.0 presence and site for a planned sustainable living community in the Yakima area. You’ll be reading/hearing/viewing a lot more about both of these organizations in the near future.
