I have to admit it, although it’s humbling to do so, I’m in bad enough of a financial situation that when I first thought about launching my job search that I thought I was willing to do anything. While there are still many different types of opportunities I would love to be considered for, I have been encouraged by some to figure out exactly what my dream job would be. I’ve also been asked by many what type of employment I am looking for. This post is all about this – what would be my ideal working situation? To see my current resume, click here.It seems almost natural for me to start off listing some of the things that I don’t want to do (I have found many throughout my life), but in continuing to try to be the most positive person I can be I will resist that urge and only list what I am looking for:
My ideal employment situation would be in Social Media / Community Building / Business Development/ Event Planning and Promotion fields.
Important factors:
Opportunity – to contribute, collaborate and help achieve an organization’s goals and objectives.
Industry – I prefer to work within the Technology, Real Estate, Green, Non-Profit or Social Media fields where I have the most knowledge and experience.
Location- I prefer to work in Bellevue, on the Eastside of Lake Washington or in the greater Seattle area, but will consider relocating for the right opportunity with a great organization. Any flexibility with part-time telecommuting would be a bonus.
Hours- I will accomodate any work hours necessary, but flexibilty to schedule my own hours is preferred. I’ve always worked more than a 4o hour work week throughout my working life and often work into the wee hours. I also have a young daughter, who I like to spend time with every chance I get.
Co-Workers – For most of the last 5 years I have worked at home and on my own. I would really like to get back into a situation where there is regular collaboration with co-workers, clients, partners and/or prospects.
Attire - I have had many “suit and tie” jobs and could easily do that again, but I prefer to be in a more casual situation and dress appropriate to the occasions of the day.
Compensation - I am definitely looking for a position with a salary, but would love to be in a situation where I would be able to have compensation incentives as well. The absolute minimum salary I could consider right now is $60k a year. The last real job I had outside of self-employment I started out at $60k a year and after multiple promotions, was earning $105,000k within the first 18 months.
Benefits – are desired but negotiable and not required.
Hours - I am an admitted workaholic and like to be able to throw myself 120% into what I do. I would like the ability to work as many hours as necessary to meet and beat organizational objectives.
Incentive to YOU – If you actually read through this and can help me secure appropriate employment, I am willing to pay you a negotiable finders fee and/or give you a year’s worth of advertising on the IamEastside.com community user generated news site. I appreciate any help you can give me finding my dream job! Thank you!
Hey, Joe. Congratulations on your new adventure. I respect and honor you for your bravery and your inspiration to so many others. Your enthusiasm is remarkable and infectious. I don’t have a job for you right now, but I will definitely help spread the word. You are a person who has always gone the extra mile to help others. You would be a great asset to any team.
Thank you SO much RJ – and for the most excellent LinkedIn recommendation. I really do appreciate you. Thanks for your kind words!
We should have coffee and talk soon. I am always trying to place the right person in the right role.
While you were writing this I was re-tooling http://seattlesocialmedia.com as an event/job resource.

Sure thing Barry (as long as I don’t have to drink coffee
)
Good idea to have events and jobs on your site – it just takes a lot to keep them updated. I followed the many links to apply for the Community Manager position at Corbis, only to find out by visiting the Corbis site that job is no longer available.
That’s a very interesting way to advertise yourself for a potential job. I especially enjoy the two photos of you. That’s a genius way of showing that you are actually a person but also a professional.
Thank you for your kind comments Dustin. Still not sure if there are m(any) companies who want to hire real individuals and/or are not afraid to hire someone who has been growing hair for disadvantaged children with medical challenges, but I’m hoping someone will see the benefits of hiring someone with my experience, skills and contacts. I do think it will probably be easier to find work after my hair is harvested, but I’m committed to wait until “The Mane Event” on April 15th.
Good Luck Joe… I will help spread the message. I’d also like to give you an outstanding referral reference from one who has known you in the social networking area for about two years.
As I’m really into the “Hire Yourself” and build yourself a business through selling, I’m always willing to offer up any inspiration I can in “selling others to pay you to do what they want and what you love to do”.
Don’t hesitate to call on me if there is anything I can do for you. …Howard
Thank you Howard. I appreciate you always being willing to help.
I’m positive the right opportunity will present itself at precisely the right time.
